This collection contains headstones from Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia in the United States, near Washington, D.C. The cemetery contains graves and mausoleums of American veterans and their select family members. Records contain the full name of the deceased, his or her date of birth, date of death, date of interment, branch of service, and military rank. Information about the grave may also be included, such as section, grave, court, column, and niche numbers.<br><br>Arlington National Cemetery was built during the American Civil War, established on May 13, 1864. The cemetery consists of 70 sections, including specific sections dedicated to those killed during the War on Terror, military nurses, Confederate soldiers, former slaves, and other groups. John BasiloneDied: Feb 19 1945
John Basilone was a United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant who received the Medal of Honor for heroism above and beyond the call of duty during the Battle for Henderson Field in the Guadalcanal campaign, and the Navy Cross posthumously for extraordinary heroism during the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was the only enlisted Marine to receive both of these decorations in World War II.
